This is a very cute vintage Zuni pottery owl with a baby owlet perched on her tail! It was made byQuanita Kalestewa and is completely hand built and painted. It was probablymade circa 1970-80. It measures 4.5\" tall and 3.25\" wide. The Owlet is about 1\" tall! The piece is in excellent condition. Signed on the bottom \"Q.K. Zuni\".

Quanita was born in 1932 and learned to make pottery from her mother Nellie Bica. The red paint on the owlis made from yellow ochre (limonite). Their pottery is firedtraditionally with sheep manure outdoors.
