This is a Vintage Russian Folk Art Hand Painted Brooch with
a lacquered finish. It shows a miniature painting of the
traditional Russian harness driving combination, using three
horses abreast, usually pulling a sleigh (Wikipedia). This style
of harness is called a Troika (тройка in Russian, meaning \"triplet\"
or \"trio\"). The Troika has become a cultural icon of Russia and is
a very popular theme for Russian folk art.The fine artwork on this brooch is very artistically detailed and colorful.
This style of painting originates from Russian Icon painters dating
back to the Byzantine era. Unable to paint icons after the Russian
Revolution, the artists began painting scenes from folk or fairy tales.
This art style is still very popular today.The Brooch is oval in shape and measures almost 2 5/8\" long and
1 3/4\" wide in the middle. It is thicker in the middle than the edges.
