This is a gorgeous Grandmother\'s Flower Garden quilt top. The 81\" X 99\" quilt top is probably from the 1930\'s or perhaps early 40\'s. The wonderful solid cotton and cotton prints are from that era. The single hexagon patches are 2 1/4\" before piecing and the block before piecing to the jadeite green path is 9 3/4\". The pretty jadeite green that makes up the majority of the quilt top is just a shade darker than my Fire King Jadeite plate. Some green patches are made from a different shade of green. These patches are mainly on the outer edges of the quilt. The top and bottom edges of the quilt top are half blocks. The quilt top is hand stitched with nice even stitches. All stitches are intact. There are a few machine stitches. During this period fabric was sometimes hard to come by so it was frugally used. It was not uncommon for the quilter to piece one patch from two or more separate pieces. In some patches a hand stitched seam was used to piece a single patch. On a couple patches machine stitches were used to join narrow pieces to make a single patch (photographs 8 & 9). The center patches are solid yellow cotton and the first ring is solid purple cotton. There are a couple of different shades of purple used. The patches may have been made from solid colored sugar or flour sacks. Some of the prints are from cloth sacks. Because the weave is smooth, flour and sugar sacks were probably used. I found sack stitch holes on one print (photograph 7). The quilt top was stored well. It was never laundered so there is a slight musty odor. Other than sack stitch holes on a couple of patches, I found no holes. There are just a few spots. The last three photographs show the worst of the spots which on a top this old are minor and should easily come out with a gentle hand soak in Biz. I spotted two or three other very tiny spots. Two patches have light pencil lines on the top side left by the quilter. This wonderful quilt top would finish into a gorgeous quilt.*** Shipping weight is 2 pounds 12 ounces
