,Smart and elegant street dress and vestee pattern from the 1930s. The neckline variations give you many interesting ways to wear this lovely frock. Simplicity 2508 Bust 32 Waist 26 Hip 35. Own a piece of fashion history and wear it too! Classic style is always in fashion.Complete pattern and primer for Misses\' and Women\'s street frock: The dress has a plain skirt with an inverted pleat at the sides and welt pockets. The blouse has a deep \"V\" opening, finished with a narrow stitched band. It may be worn with gilets, scarf, bows, or linked buttons. Set-in long or short sleeves. The pattern and primer are complete and in good shape. The envelope shows typical wear for as old as it is: some tears and splits along the edges. The worst tear is at the bottom left corner, about 2.5\" long. The envelope is wrinkly, as is often the case for this era pattern. The paper is softer than later patterns, but this actually let the envelope wrinkle rather than crack or tear. The graphics are still lovely. This would make a beautiful addition to your collection!
Once again, this is not a printed pattern! A quick word about unprinted patterns: These predate patterns with the cutting lines and markings printed on them. The pattern pieces are already cut to size. The marking are designated by holes punched in the paper and notches cut in along the edges. The upside is that the pattern does not need to be trimmed before placing it on the fabric. The holes make it easy to transfer markings to fabric without tearing the pattern. You can just make tailor tacks right through them! It may seem intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, the new experience in sewing is worth it. Definitely read the primer very carefully before getting started. There is a lot of information packed onto, usually, one page. This was an effort to save paper as these patterns date from the depression through WWII. Another paper saver was to include dimensions for square or rectangular pattern pieces (such as pockets, welts, belts, ruffles, etc.) so you could make the pattern piece yourself or trace the dimensions directly onto the fabric. So if it appears at first that there are pattern pieces missing, go back and look at the pattern piece diagram and then read through the instructions on the pattern layout page. That is usually where the dimensions will be given for pieces that you are to make yourself. I suppose folks were meant to be more self-sufficient and resourceful in those days! It really makes you realize how tough times were and how valuable these patterns must have been to the original owners. It is a privilege to me to be able help find these little pieces of history a new curator: someone who appreciates them and allows them to come back to life as either as a new outfit, or a treasured part of a collection!Use the bust measurement to determine the size you need. Pattern sizes do not correspond to retail ready-to-wear sizes. Take bust measurement across the widest part of your back and around fullest part of you bust. This will not be the same as your bra size, which is the band measurement just under the bust. Please Note: I\'d like buyers to understand that these patterns are Vintage. As such, they are not pristine. Even those items that are in great shape considering their age will have some minor flaws simply due to age and general use of the item. Old patterns usually have discoloration, foxing, tears, splits, writing, stamps, stickers, pinholes, or \"old book\" smell (I do not mean mildewy. That is something I would specifically mention) to some degree. I do my best to describe my items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability, flaws and all. What I may consider to be a gorgeous and interesting vintage item, may not meet your same criteria. I think the notes written on the patterns by those who used them so long ago add such character and life. To me, these patterns smell like a library and remind me of story-time in elementary school. I do not attempt to clean, restore, or repair vintage items because I would not want to damage them nor interfere with the story they have to tell. I will leave that decision to you. Please keep all of this in mind when you are offerding on my sales and remember that vintage is just that...Vintage!
