Old patterns usually have discoloration, foxing, tears, splits, writing, stamps, stickers, pinholes, or \"old book\" smell (I do not mean mildewy. That is something I would specifically mention) to some degree. I do my best to describe my items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability, flaws and all. What I may consider to be a gorgeous and interesting vintage item, may not meet your same criteria. I think the notes written on the patterns by those who used them so long ago add such character and life. To me, these patterns smell like a library and remind me of story-time in elementary school. I do not attempt to clean, restore, or repair vintage items because I would not want to damage them nor interfere with the story they have to tell. I will leave that decision to you.
