Youare offerding on a WONDERFUL LARGE 19c Rosewood veneered restored and repolishedjewellery box. Dates approximately 1840/1880.

InWONDERFUL restored condition.

Veryminor repair throughout. small minor veneer repair to the rear left side, andright side bottom edge. Slight bruising to the front right above the keyhole. Coupleof bruises to the top right edge, and minor repair to the right side ofthe lock on the inner rim. There is an old stain which is under theFrench polish and has been with the box probably at manufacturer. The Victorians often stained areas to make them blend in with the graining. Over time the colour alters. It has been therefor a very long time. The light patch in-between the hinges is the colour of graining and not a repair.These are all very minor and in no way detract fromthis really superb box.

Theinlay is superb.

Inlaidwith brass stringing to the top and front with two tiny lost pieces at the top,again this is nothing. Further inlaid with brass, mother of pearl and abaloneshell to the central cartouche and keyhole escutcheon.

Thefixed inner lid backing board and silk panel are original to the box. The silkhas minor fray and marks. The tooling has minor marks and rubbing, butessentially it is in pretty good order for its age. There is a mother of pearllarge disc with brass catch that is purely for show. We believe these to beoriginal to the box although unsure.

I’MPRETTY SURE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Boxretains the original lock, top catch and hinges.

Suppliedwith a silk tassel and Victorian key that sadly does not lock the box and issupplied and described as being decorative only.

YOUONLY GET THIS TYPE OF QUALITY FROM US.

Comprising a wonderful interior that boasts a laterwooden tray finished to a superb standard that compliments. This has beenrelined in expensive velvet material of the highestquality, the same as the interior of thebox.

All the added dividers withinthe tray can easily be repositioned or removed if desired. The tray can holdmany rings in an upright position.

Underneath the additionaltray and beneath the base of the box have also been lined in velvet to stop anyscratches to other surfaces.

A superb box, andwould make a fantastic gift.
