Description

This little fellow is vintage, made in Germany, dating to the 1920\'s or early 1930\'s. He is hand made from composite over wood and wire. He is really lovely, and unmarked. He has remarkable detail, and is sooo charming. "Composite" is actually a catch-all term used to refer to a material that could vary from maker to maker. It means a combination of materials that often included glue, sawdust, plaster, and sometimes clay and dirt! The "composition" was then molded over wood and wire and painted. It tends to crack and craze over the years, so items made from it often didn\'t survive at all, or survive with damage!

This fellow is miniature, measuring 3 3/4" long and standing 1 3/4" tall. He has some cracks and crazing to his composite, but no major chips or breaks. He has a crack around one ear, and one horn has been reglued. He displays really well, and has a wonderful expression! I am not sure if he is a cow or bull, but he is really cute! He would be darling as part of a Christmas Putz village. Putz is the German word for plaster, and has also come to mean the village scenes that people display under their trees each year at Christmas. I have more information about Putz and German pieces on my "Me" page, as well as a buying guide, if you are interested. I have other vintage miniature composite animals that would go really well with this fellow, so take a look!
