~ WW1 Capture Of Damascus Egyptian Styled Decorated Brass Trench Art Tobacco Jar ~The Capture of Damascus occurred on 1 October 1918 after the capture of Haifa and the victory at the Battle of Samakh which opened the way for the pursuit north from the Sea of Galilee and the Third Transjordan attack which opened the way to Deraa and the inland pursuit, after the decisive Egyptian Expeditionary Force victory at the Battle of Megiddo during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of World War I.
The shell case has been etched with a pattern depicting an Egyptian style decoration, with various depictions of Egyptian hieroglyphics including the great pyramids and various men with reeds. The front reads “Damascus 1918”.
The lid depicts a goat galloping through the forest with various tropical birds watching.

The brass shell has a height of 4 inches (10.2 cm) & a diameter of 5 inches (12.7 cm).It weighs 1.74 Kg.
~ Condition ~
Typical wear including scratches and minor areas of deterioration, though it largely remains in good condition. The minor creases that can be seen on the body were made during production.
