$360.77

Up to 50 Letters including photos from US Soldier WilleneTurner between 1944-1945 who was stationed at Dachau when the German army fell and was in the famed 45th Division of the Army (Thunderbirds). Places he traveled to, documents that have been saved during that time

Just a brief notation about some of the letters I did read:

In a letter shortly after the war was declared over, while still at Camp Dachau, Germany he enclosed a document entitled \"The Crematorium in the Dachau Concentration Camp\" author unidentified but is highly descriptive of what happened to the people interred at Dachau under German soldiers.

Includedalso are graphic photos that will not be displayed on line taken at Dachau Concentration Camp.

After the war ended he was then stationed in a castle in Hoenkammer, Germany. He discusses the castle they stayed in had been converted by Hitler for a Hitler Youth Camp. Installation of communication lines.

In another letter he writes home about being wounded by a communication line insulator and that it tore up his mouth. He did not tell what happened in his letter. In talking to his son I was awed by the son\'s story of HOW he was wounded. A German tank spotted him on a communications pole and attempted to shoot him down, literally shooting the pole out from under him. He would have fallen except the lines themselves prevented him from falling all the way but an insulator hit him in the mouth which was why he began sporting a mustache. He received a bronze Medal mentioned in one letter.

In Dec \'44, he talks about capturing prisoners by a man known as \"Little Red\" and that he doesn\'t trust the Germans

I believe these letters are informative from a soldier who fought all the way through the war and was able to make it back home safely.

I attended an estate sale of the son(often mentioned in the soldier\'s letters) in Texas. His son is now inhis 70\'s. It has been suggested that I sell all the letters and photos altogether, so this soldier\'s story can better be discerned.

The soldier is Willene Turnerand the letters are mostly from him to his parents and wife, Gert. He lived inHillsboro, Ohio. They are wonderful to read and am selling them all in one sale. As a soldier of the 45th Division of the Army (Thunderbirds) he fought in Italy, France and Dachau,Germany and saw battles that he refused to relay in his letters but did mentionin one of the letters that pictures were horrible and that he didn\'t want orneed to see any like that because all he had to do was close his eyes and seeall the pictures he wanted. He does share his life while stationed\"Somewhere in Italy\" and \'Somewhere in France\". He went from private to First Sgt, in one year, the highest rank allowed for anenlisted man at that time. Willene Turner died at the age of 70.

There are letters telling ofthings I feel would be of value to a WW2 history buff. Have not viewed all of them. Posting items takestime, having sold 2 letters recently on line with historical value, so have decided to sell them all in bulk along with his photos sent home. Several of the letters are while he was stationed in Dachau and was glad the war was over and that \"it sure beats getting shot at day after day\"
