Original helmet and liner, very aged, but complete with name, unit, date and location. The helmet is very weathered. There is no cork in the paint, a lot of which has worn off. The paint has lots of discoloration. What looks like rust is some type of residual coating. When it is wet, it scrapes off with my fingernail. Perhaps it was a tan coloring (Just a guess) for the desert. Minor dings on top of the helmet, front seam, stainless rim. Inside has some residual blue paint, and some parts where the paint wore off. The welded bales are in good condition. The straps are weathered, but good. The buckle is blackened brass.

The liner has deteriorated leather chin strap and swearband. These parts are in poor and broken condition. It was made by Westinghouse (Last Photo). Lots of weathering on the outside.

The most interesting part of the helmet is what is scratched into it. On the liner suspension the number W0843 is hand written. It is also scratched onto the left outer part of the liner along with E. E. Williams RSN 11010843 (I think I got that right), 66 Fgtr Sqdrn, 57th Fgtr Div, Oct 10th 1942, El Alamein, Egypt. It is hard to read, but it is there. Also, Inside the liner is 12th AF, North Africa and the # W0843 again. Under the visor of the steel pot, scratched in lightly and very hard to see is what looks like (but I'm not positive) W0843 again.

Note to overseas buyers. I will not falsefy customs forms. The price that this sold for will be the price on the form.
