Capotes were introduced to America by French fur trappers in the mid-1700\'s. Early versions were called \"canoe coats\". They were adopted and modified (made longer) by the British military. Capotes were loved by Native Americans who found them warm but much lighter than animal hides. Wool capotes are water resistant, maintaining 80% of their insulative value even when wet. Today they\'re worn by mountain man re-enactors, buckskinners, and muzzleloading enthusiasts. But, capotes are not just for re-enactors. They remain stylish and functional to this day.

I\'ve been a fur trade re-enactor for 20 years. I personally cut, sew and hand-edge my capotes and wool shirts. Whenever a vintage blanket is used there may be some patina however, unless noted, there are no major stains, holes or odors.

This is newly made froma vintage100% woolblanket and green wool fabric, both in excellent condition. The outside blanket is gold, medium weight. The lining isforest green, medium weight with a very long, luxurious nap.

The body, hood, sleeves and belt of the capote are hand-edged in black wool. The edging adds a nice finish but also protects the blanket from fraying. It has 2 large7\"x 9\" outsidepockets just below the beltline. Thecapote is hand-edged with deep green colored yarn. The edging adds a nice finished look but, more importantly protects the wool from fraying.

Very handsome appearance and will provide superior warmth and protection from the cold, wind and moisture.
