Wyatt Earp \"Happy Day\" Gold Mine Memorabilia:
$300.00

Wyatt S. Earp (1848-1929) was one of the most notable frontier peace officers of the late nineteenth century. With a legend established in books like Tombstone: An Iliad of the Southwest (1927) and Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal (1931), Earp\'s reputation became truly international after filmmakers like John Ford and John Sturges immortalized Earp (and the O.K. Corral gunfight) in movies made in the \'30s, \'40s, and \'50s. Less well known is Earp\'s late-in-life prominence in such things as gambling, racing, and mining.
One of Wyatt Earp\'s mining interests was the \"Happy Day\" gold mine in the Whipple Mountains of San Bernardino County, California, and it is this mine (out of the dozens located by Wyatt and his wife, Josephine) that is represented by this unique and significant piece of Western Americana.
This memorabilia is comprised of three distinct pieces: a piece of ore obtained directly from Earp\'s mining claim and a small section of railroad from the track adjacent to the Earps\' claim, and both are attached (via clear-lacquer mounting) to a piece of wood obtained from the Happy Day Mine.
This is a very rare and desirable addition to any collection of Earpiana and/or Western Americana, and includes a notarized statement of provenance from Earp biographer Timothy W. Fattig (Wyatt Earp: The Biography, 2003).
