Description ------- antique, very finely woven tatting or silk thread basket, in an egglike or acorn-like shape -this piece is used like a string holder but very delicately constructed, so it was only intended for lightweight, fine yarn or threads. There\'s a 1/4\" diameter hole for the thread to emerge on top.As delicate as an egg, this is a rare survivor. Because of the fineness of the weave, I thought this might be Shaker. Not perfect in condition, it does have some issues, so please have a look at the photos enlarged and please read the condition description. Size --

Shown with my model\'s fingers for scale.Condition -------With some damage - old string replaces the original hinge which shows remnants. Loop on top is broken, loops at closure are broken. Basket has attained a slight oval shape with age if viewed from above. There are some losses of splint and reed, but mostly the separations they cause can only be seen if viewed silhouetted from within. Rich patina of age - obviously an early piece and delicate as an egg. Please enlarge all photos to view, as all sides are shown.
