An antique French carved needle case in shield shape having an engraved arrow and a round medallion setting on top side. The original medallion is missing and I\'m not sure what the red material is, perhaps an original adhesive under the medallion ? The French Palais Royal sewing instruments were marked often with a medallion, not just the mother of pearl pieces, carved bone and other natural carved materials were also presented in that shop. Not sure if this would indicate a Palais Royal case or not so please use your own knowledge. Significance of engraved arrow also eludes me.
There are a couple of teeny pinhead sized faded red spots (1 front & 1 back) and some errant red around the medallion spot, see enlarged detail pics.
A tight old age crack on edge of top and tiny age darkedned line along grain at very peak. On close inspection age related surface wear consisiten with age and use. No other cracks, no chips or repairs.
Feels wonderful in hand, smooth and cool against skin.
Measures approx. 3-3/8\" l. x 3/4\"+ w. x 1/4\" thick.
