OBJECT// Antique marvellous and very rare 18th century memento mori carved wood skull, like all very fine european sculpture of the 18th century the quality is breath taking, very life like and superbly well hollowed, this is a rare relic and most likely German from a cabinet of curiosities, Memento mori (studies of death) were made to remind people of the short nature of life, yet for the serious collector of sculpture this object is very satisfying just as a work of art.
CONDITION// Very Good, loss of piece to the cheek, crack to the side.
SIZE// 5 by 5 CM.
