This early paper mache\' doll is known as a \"pumpkin head\" due to her large, puffy, exaggerated hairdo. She was made in Germany around 1870. She measures approximately 13 1/4\" tall...as she is now with her missing feet. Complete with replaced or repaired legs, this doll would measure approximately 14\" tall. Her shoulder head alone measures 4 1/8\" tall by 3 1/4\" across her shoulders. This doll has a particularly sweet little face with her blue glass, almost pupil-less early eyes and little rosebud mouth. She is in original, as found condition, complete with her original (made for her) fancy white dress. The dress itself is beautifully made and completely hand-sewn with tiny stitches...made of a very fine early cotton. Despite the fact that it is all-white, the details on the dress are amazing: smocking and piping around the bodice waistline, a lace-trimmed apron which is part of the dress, gathered cuffs, and a lace-trimmed wide neck hole. Other than two small holes on one sleeve, the dress is in excellent condition and appears to have been recently washed. To be honest, the early hand-sewn dress alone is worth the \"buy it now.\" The doll itself has some flaws, however she is so early and sweet! She appears to retain completely original paint and finish. There are rubs on her hair...on the tips of the curls, as well as slight wear to her painted facial features. There are 4 short superficial cracks on the shoulder plate...each between 1/2\"-1\" long, as well as a vertical crack along one side of her head which was reinforced/filled with glue in the past to help stabilize it. There are two small chips on the shoulder plate edge...one on the front left corner and one on the rear left corner. There are very tiny and minor flakes on her fingertips, and her lower legs/boots are broken off and missing. I can feel a crier in her torso which no longer works. Her sawdust-stuffed gauze body is factory original. Please feel free to ask additional questions prior to offerding.
