SCARCE HANDWRITTEN MANUSCRIPT BINDER\'S FRAGMENT OF ELIZABETHAN ERA MANUSCRIPTc1530-1550Unknown (likely England)Rarely encountered binding fragment of an Elizabethan manuscript c1530-1550. Latin text. Country of origin is unknown, however a similar fragment I have recently sold looked to have been written in the same contemporary hand (and hence is likely to have been taken from the same larger manuscript work). The original seller indicated that the whole piece had the inscription of the Great Seal of the Realm of Queen Elizabeth I. Given this evidence, the country of origin is likely to be England.
12\" x 1\" strip. 4 lines of text on recto, verso is mainly blank with a couple of words jotted down in the same hand (and ink) sporadically. Crease along lower long edge partially obscures fourth line of text, but remains legible if the creased strip of vellum is carefully pulled back. Some ordinary overall browning, but text that is remaining remains clear, crisp, and legible, ink remains consistently dark and has been well preserved. Each line appears to be complete in itself and the text all seems to be continuous. Overall a highly desirable item, worthy of further research.Any additional info welcomed. Great chance to own a piece of a nearly 500+ year old manuscript! Good luck!Pics taken with and without flash for better idea of content.
