Rare and original, ca1930\'s Native American Navajo Indian hand woven and decorated Wedding Basket / Tray with its original, blanket wool plug. This original, early 20th century Navajo Ceremonial Wedding Basket measures approx. 13 1/2\" in diameter and 2 1/2\" tall.

This beautiful Navajo Basket is decorated with natural dies of red, black and rust colors with the traditional spirit break design. The Tray / Basket retains its original wool fabric central plug used to keep the cornmeal with which the basket was filled during the wedding ceremony from running out.

This rare and original, ca1930\'s Navajo Wedding Basket is in good to very good condition. The Basket is sound and strong but there is some scattered loss to the weft. There is significant fading to the dyes on both the inner and outer surfaces and some wear and loss to the weft as can be seen in the scans below. It has never been hung or altered in any way. The rim is intact, tight and well preserved and all elements of the Basket are original - there has been no repairs or restorations. As stated above, the Tray retains the original, wool blanket plug at the center.
