vintage Metal Brass \"Watch the Birdie\" Bird Antique Whistle Toy Early 1900\'s :
$45.44

In the early years of 1920\'s this mechanical brassbird was used to make small children sit still while taking a photograph for a portrait session....Hence the phrase: \"Watch The Birdie\". The toy bird would be held by a assistant or parent. A rubber hose and a squeeze bulb was at one time attached to the short lengthbrass tube unit then the brass base was separated into two halvesand filled with water.Squeezing the rubber bulb would blow air into the unit causing the bird to have a warbler whistlesounding of a birdie chirping and at the same time the beak and tail would move. That is how the bird would draw children\'s attention to sit still.

Measures 4\" tall ... the brass bird is 3 1/4\" long ... all parts work (beak & tail) very good condition considering age and usage. . The rubber tube and squeeze bulb has deteriorated years ago. The rubber tubing is not original to the bird...Weput a rubber tubeon so we can blow the whistle and that tube can be easily removed. The mechanical bird works fine. Beak opens and closes - the tail moves up and down - the bird chirps with a warbler sound....
