This is an original antique Victorian era Raphael Tuck & Sons Civil War historical patriotic postcard. Embossed with additional enhance glittering by sender – Victorian altered art card

The Flag the and laurel branches and wreath and General’s sashes, etc. enhanced with fabulous gold glitter.

Union and Confederate Generals – assume the artist would be representing General Lee in this postcard – shows the edge of the field of battle with canon -

Publisher information printed on the back of this card. A very fancy royal looking Raphael Tuck logo with a lion and either a unicorn or a griffon on the top of the message side.

Below the logo it states:

BY APPOINTMENT

PRINTED IN SAXONY

A different Raphael Tuck logo in the stamp box and in the bottom left hand corner showing an artist’s easel and palette stating “ARTISTIC SERIES”

Also states:

RAPHAEL TUCK & SONS Decoration Day Series of Post Cards, No. 518. ART PUBLISHERS TO THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING & QUEEN

It is an undivided back card so this dates it to between 1907 and 1915.

I believe I can date it closer. I received a lovely scrapbook album – unpasted – the cards were placed in photograph type slits in this album, so there is no glue on the back. These cards were between 1906 and 1910.

Size:approx 5 ½ by 3 5/8ths inches

Condition:very good – unposted and unmarked. It is over 100 years old so possibly some light age toning and possibly some light corner tip wear – please see scans.
