Baudelaire worked with Edmond Laumonier on the translation of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories. These translations first appeared in the newspapers. They have then been gathered in the form of a collection, bearing the title of `Histoires extraordinaires`.This collection which, after having been successively refused by Lecou and Hachette, was accepted by Michel Lévy, who had already been in contact with Baudelaire for the publication of the Salon of 1846.
