In 1933, the "Nihonto Tanrenkai" (Japan Sword Forging Foundation) was established within the shrine grounds to manufacture military swords for Army and Navy officers; swords forged there are known as "Yasukuni swords," and the smiths who created them are called "Yasukuni swordsmiths."Among the many "Yasukuni-tō" (swords forged at the Yasukuni Shrine), the blades of Yasukichi are highly acclaimed and popular today for their exceptional craftsmanship.This particular sword was forged in November 1941—the year after he received the smithing name "Yasukichi"—dating from a period when his skills were at their absolute peak.
