This is a striking bright red border 1 1/4" campaign pinback button for Governor Calvin Coolidge who was sitting for his second term as governor of Massachusetts in 1920. Coolidge gained national fame for his handling of the Boston police strike of 1919 and was selected by Warren G. Harding to be his running mate leading to his election for vice president. He finished his governorship in early 1921 before becoming vice president, setting the stage for his presidency after Harding's death in 1923. This pin has seldom been available and did note previous sales in March of 2022 in Hakes sale for $10,124.45 with noted brown spotting/stains over the word "Vice" and again in February 2025 in Heritage sale for $8,125.00 with very noticeable off centering of the portrait. The example available today is in excellent condition without any noticeable stains or off centering issues and the best conditioned example in comparison to the two noted above for reference. This is one of the best single pictured Coolidge campaign items from 1920 and would make a great addition for the advanced collector. Please ask if any questions.
