I had a fire. Unless the item says in next sentence of description that the item is available and here, please don't offer or offer. More will become available. Welcome!
I'm offering a rare and gorgeous pin made in the 1940's-1950's. There are numerous elements identical to Bowman Paywa's work but enough differences to suggest either Albert Paywa Sr or Jim Paywa made this one. There's also a possibility it is Teddy Weahkee's work but I'll go with Paywa family on the basis of currently known info. It is the only one of this design I've ever seen and I watch closely for them. It's exceptional and an important example, with uniquely gorgeous wire work, very graceful and scalloped on top of the wings and under the tail. All the hand work is wonderful in every respect.
The dimensions are about 2-3/8" x 2-3/8", and the weight 14 grams, with natural stones of red abalone, white mother of pearl, jet and natural turquoise. Note the three rectangular insets in the face for eyes and the beautiful silver adornments, the checkerboard trim on the skirt as well as the straight and perfectly rounded elements of the inlay perfectly executed, the tiny applied raindrops and serrated bezels. The delicate and wonderful wire work element is the most gorgeous aspect that rivets my attention but the overall work is the best possible quality. It is unsigned but all of these were at that time, and unmarked for silver content but of course it's a least coin at .900 and probably sterling at .925. There is some very slight matrix loss on one foot and minimal age related wear: the overall condition is excellent vintage, wearable and collectible.
As for pricing, the ones similar in size and quality to this pin were valued in one book at up to $2250 and that was some years ago, so the value of this pin would be higher now if that price is accurate. This is an exciting find as a very early unique example and variation of Bowman Paywa's very fine knifewing pin. It's a great addition to any collection.
Sometimes you feel it's an honor to own a certain piece, even for a while; that's how I feel about this one.
Zuni artistry doesn't get any better than this. It's phenomenal. This is an opportunity to obtain a masterpiece of early Zuni work at well below market value.
