Frankfort Jan. 21st 1824

In conversation with Mr. ( ) Dudley he informed me, thatseveral Philadelphia merchants had considerable sums of money in Commonwealthpaper laying useless in this country, and that a considerable amount was underyour control. On expressing my desire to borrow five or six thousand dollars ofit for a term of years without interest to be paid in specie, he recommended meto write you on the subject. If you have it to dispose of in that way, I willborrow six thousand dollars in Commonwealth's paper to be repaid in specie atthe end of five years without interest and will give ample security upon realproperty for its prompt payment. An immediate answer is respectfullysolicited."
