The ceremonial dagger was introduced for officers (generals) and non-commissioned officers of the Aviation Administration, and later the independent Hungarian Air Force. Photographs from that time indicate that the dagger was also worn by Air Force cadets. By government decree of June 7, 1940, cadets of the Miklós Horthy flight were allowed to wear a black fabric belt and pendant, as well as a pilot's dagger. Academy.2
An accurate and detailed description of the ceremonial dagger is contained in the Regulations on Military Uniforms issued in 1930 under the heading “Description of the Airman’s Military Uniform,” so the dagger was probably introduced into use this year. The earliest photograph I could find is dated May 21, 1932, and shows a ceremonial dagger. The photo was taken at Matthiasfeld airport when György Endres and Gyula Bittay were seen off before taking off on what later turned out to be their last flight to Rome3. The photograph shows another knight, György Rákosi, head of the Aviation Administration, carrying an additional weapon (dagger).4
Several manufacturers produced daggers. The Hungarian Wings, for example, repeatedly published advertisements by Lajos Meyszáros, in which he offered a ceremonial dagger (and belt) for officers, cadets and non-commissioned officers. Over the fifteen years during which the dagger was produced, there were a large number of different versions, more or less different from each other. Some daggers have workshop marks (for example: “Myasrosh”, “Kozyok”, “Bp”, etc.), but most were produced without them. Parts of some specimens had a serial number, but this is also not a common occurrence.
The dagger is early, a similar type is the earliest of all known original daggers. The blade is uncoated, smooth, does not have a manufacturer's mark, the number on the front side is visible - 141, such daggers were given to officers until they bought their own.
