Authentic Ancient Roman Artifact 1st Century (Bronze Abdominal Forceps).

A simple google search will reveal that the only other one that (known) exists is in a University exhibit of Roman Surgical tools. This was found in a region where Dacia, Moesia Inferior and Sarmatia intersect. Modern day Vinnitsia,Ukraine Region. This particular forceps were used to enlarge an arrow entry hole for extraction, to remove a foreign object that penetrated the skin or to remove bone that was not possible to remove with the fingers. The forceps are in excellent condition for the age. It has a green patina with very minimal porosity. The forceps have a jog in them which doesn't allow them to fully function but they do function minimally. These are believed to be from the 1st Century. They are very rare and just about non-existentin this shape or size. At 4.5 inches long. Considered and medium to large forceps. The largest known abdominal forceps are approximately 7 inches long. With the smaller forceps running from 2-3 inches long.Facts: Bronze was very expensive in the Roman era. Bronze is made of copper and tin. Neither of these metals exist in Italy so bronze was imported from England or Western Asia. This is why these forceps are so rare and scarce. Many Roman era tools were made from steel whichdeteriorated and became corroded and mineralized into the soil.
This is a beautiful piece of history that would be great for display of the revolution of Surgical tools.Please do your research and inform yourself about the history of Roman Surgical tools.Don't hesitate to ask questions.
