A Directoire Period/ Empire Period 1793-1815 French Bronze Chariot Mantel Clock Depicting a Chariot Driven by a Winged Putto with a Mounted Lion. It is also possible this Mantle Clock could have been made in the Empire Period Between 1800 and 1820. The Directoire Period and the Empire Period do overlap. However the use of the Bronze Urns at the base are emblematic of the Directoire Period. The Ormolu on the front is exquisite and of the highest quality. The marble is a beautiful green with white veins running through it called Verde Antico. This marble was frequently used in the Directoire Period and Empire Period. It measures 17 inches wide X 18 inches high. THE BRONZE WORK IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY!!!! ORIGINAL GLASS ON THE CLOCKFACE AND THE SPOKES OF THE CHARIOT WHEEL ARE SHOWCASED FROM THE CENTER OF THE CLOCK TO THE EDGE OF THE CLOCK. ADDITIONALLY THERE ARE TWO FEMALES ON THE END OF THE CHARIOT WHOSE LOWER BODY WRAPS THEMSELVES AROUND THE CHARIOT. WE BELIEVE THE CLOCK IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. THIS PIECE HAS BEEN IN OUR FAMILY FOR OVER 75 YEARS AND WELL CARED FOR.
