BEFORE AUTOCAR BECAME A CAR AND TRUCK BUILDER, FOUNDER LOUIS SEMPLE CLARKE, A MECHANICAL ENGINEER, INVENTED A MOTORIZED TRICYCLE IN 1897, LATER CALLED THE AUTOCAR NO. 1, WHICH NOW RESIDES IN THE SMITHSONIAN.
