~ Historically Significant ~CHELSEA SHIPS BELLS BRASS CLOCK SET WITH BAROMETER AND THERMOMETERC.1950~ New Lower Price ~Offered for the serious collector, a near mint Chelsea "Ships Bells" clock paired with a matching barometer with curved red liquid thermometer mounted on a steal presentation display stand. The clock bears aplaque with presentation information showing it was awarded to the outgoing Hartford Rotary president "Hugh Meade Alcorn Jr." in 1950. Mr. Alcorn was a promonate figure in 1940's CT. politics and served as Republican speaker of the House and Hartford's State Attorney. Interestingly, his brother Howard served as a former chief justice of the CT Supreme Court.
Frankly I am not sure what shines brighter, the stunning Chelsea clock set or the clocks famous provenance. Currently on display in my study.
The 14 Lb clock set was just serviced and inspected by an experienced clock repair business owner. The clock runs and chimes the 8 bell watch sequence perfectly. The short video allows you to hear "8 bells" Which happens at 12, 4 and 8. Any museum would love to have this one.
