Rare 19th century lithophane porcelain lampSHADE,
- rare large size one piece porcelain shade,
- American vedute or views,
- impressed titles,
- unsigned,
- attributed to PPM(Prensaich Porzellan Manufactur),
- straight conical shape with
- four Americanscenes interspersed with scrolled florals,
- this is a full molded shade-notindividual panels,
- bisque surface,
- smeared gloss glaze on divider bands, topand bottom edge band.
The four American scenes are continuing to the right
-1) The Niagara-Fall (PPMscene-75),
- 2) President’s House (WhiteHouse)(PPM scene-76),
- 3) Staaten Island/Bay of New York (PPMscene-74),
- 4) Residence of Washington-(Mt Vernon) (PPM scene-77).12”, dia, 3” dia-inside top opening, 5.5” tall.
Condition – excellent, no chips, cracks or repairs. 2240- This is one of three known examples of this shade (please message if a known example in a collection).
- The manufacturing difficulty of this particular shade is extremely high dueto the size of single piece construction using eight-part construction.Interior surface appears to be hand finished on a potters wheel.
- Attributed to PPM (Prensaich Porzellan Manufactur), Plaue, Thuringia, Germanyby other identical marked and numbered individual scenic panels.
- Date would be prior to the 1890’s marking of country of origin/importationlaws.
