Heavy signed Tommy Jackson Navajo Sterling Silver "Sacred Bear" Concho Belt
I'm very pleased to offer you this fine Concho Belt. This was made by the famousNavajo smith Tommy Jackson. Unfortunately, Tommy passed away last May from a heart attack. He had been sellinghis award winning Sterling Silver and stonepieces since 1973 and was born on 1/20/58.His work can be found in countless museums and galleries. It can also befound in all the major Native Jewelry catalogs and reference books. A few are listed below.I would see Tommy at Native events selling his jewelry and visiting with his friends and customers. He has traded with me andeven done quick repairs on a buckle I happened to be wearing several years agothat had a stone loose in its bezel. I liked to chat with him about various artists, stamps, turquoise, etc. I was anticipating meeting with him about some special turquoise that I purchased to have him make some jewelry for me. He loved people and making amazing jewelry.
There are no defects like cracked or loose stones, scratches, etc. The Concho Belt is in very excellent condition and may havebeen used very little.I believe you will be pleased!
When you take a look at the pictures, please inspect thethe supurb quality throughout. It is quite elegant and can be worn with a pair of blue jeans or for dress occasions too... Your friendsmay compliment you and your taste inNavajo Jewelry.
The Sterling Silver Conchos are thick and quite heavy for their size. I'm sure that you are familiar with light-weight Concho Belts that look and feel "flimsy"...not this one! There is a mirror-like finish after the recent professional polish that makes these bears a wonderful radiance.
The Concho Belt Buckle stamped with the correct "Jackson" hallmark. It is Notstamped "Sterling",but it is guaranteed to beSterling Silver and authentic. It is most likely the work made by Tommy in the past 20 years.
In response to a question fro an er...
Hello,Just the buckle is hallmark signed. It is not typical for Tommy Jackson to sign every piece...actually, I have seen all pieces signed by other concho belt artists and even owned one (once). I'm pretty confident that almost always just the buckle is signed based in my experience with hundreds of concho belts. This is a really good one and the stone lapidary is amazing. After Tommy died just over a year ago, his wife Maria still has continued with her lapidary craft. Thanks!Kevin in Tucson
Tommy Jacklon used the silver overlay technique to make each of these thick and heavy Bears. In the 1930's, the University of Northern ArizonahelpedHopi silversmithsdevelop a unique style and technique to differentiate themselves from the Navajos. It involves bondingof two formerly distinct sheets of Sterling Silver and is known as Silver Overlay. For decades, the Hopi have excelled at this and to some it defines the "Hopi Style."Because of the thickness of the Sterling, I'm sure that was a bit of a chore. I believe that I have provided you with individual close-up photographs of a few examples. Take a good look using the magnification feature. I'd love to trade with you today. If you like Navajo Concho Belts as much as I do, please feel free to take a look at themany that I have for sale on ...
Iship anywhere in the United States for free. I will pack this carefully for you so that the conchos do not rub up against each other in transit and it willget to you in the same condition that you see in the pictures.Insurance is included, of course...
I thankYou and look forward to sharing a good experience!
