Up for sale is anExtraordinary Victorian Era Original Graphite Drawing of a "Native American Woman", circa.1876 or earlier as evidenced by the Chicago Times Newspaper mounted as backing material in the original Victorian frame. Rare subject matter depicts a young woman in native dress with fine detail. This is an important historical piece that is quite large at 31" x 27" x 2 1/2" deep in the frame with the drawing itself being about 24" x 20" sight size looking at the back. The graphite/pencil drawling is of the highest caliber skill and shows evidence of a second portrait on the back. I did not want to remove the backing board that remains as it is holding the newspaper intact and is very fragile. The newspaper itself is very interesting as it is dated, July 15th, 1876 and features many unusual advertisements, stories of miracle cures by religious relics and even a commentary on Irelands political Federalism influence and "woes" as it relates to Great Britain. Overall, a striking piece that is of great historical value. This would be an excellent acquisition for any museum or premium caliber collector.
